Text that FileMelo detects under a redaction box is deleted from the page content streams, and the exported file is re-parsed to confirm it can no longer be extracted. If that check does not pass, no file is produced. Content that is not text — images, vector artwork, annotations and form fields — is covered by the box but not removed, so review the output before sharing it.
A scan is a picture, so there is no text to delete. The box hides it visually, but the pixels underneath remain. Flatten the page to an image or run OCR and redact the text layer if the underlying content must be destroyed.
